Adolfo Perez Esquivel, 1980 Nobel Peace Prize winner for Christ in a Poncho said this: “Capitalism and communism are both imperialisms that provide only half answers. They make the human being an object … We want something besides capitalism or communism, something on the order to self-management and sharing.”
Finally, change we can believe in! Linda, you're the kind of visionary we need. Soon we'll wake from the dream and smell the coffee, only to find the global elite pillagers are finishing it off and there's not a drop left for us. Finally we'll turn to each other and try to recreate the future out of what we do have. Whether we do this in a state of panic/suspicion/confusion, or with knowledge and compassion, largely depends on how ready we are right now to deprogram ourselves -- and listen to the outside-the-box visionaries who are in fact the only realists.
Corporate Culture has certainly made THAT near impossible! The precious time spent with family, friends, and ourselves has been co-opted by the new national memes Democracy as Consumerism and Progress at Every Price. ''Greed is GOOD'', says Michael Douglas' character in Oliver Stone's 1987 movie''Wall Street''. Well, that notion has certainly proven itself out in 2008's media disclosures, hasn't it?
So here we are once again, Holiday Time, frustrated, panicked, because we can't buy, buy, buy ....to show our Love! Ironically, with our deepening, recessionary economy, many of us will have idle time to rediscover what the idea of self-management, sharing, love is really all about.
$$$ can never be a substitute for what is most enduring. We yearn for balance in our lives, to disconnect from addictions that have made our lives unbearable, and fill up the empty spaces of the Heart. Now may be the perfect time to reconnect with more heart-felt values and ways to be/have/do that have nothing to do with $$$.
What would it be like to enjoy, experience the euphoria of Thanksgiving and Christmas every day of the year? It IS possible. STAY TUNED !
